Reflecting on the "Decolonize The Pelvis" Masterclass: A Journey of Healing and Reclamation with Aminah Jackson

Nia Brown

This past Saturday, June 1st, I had the profound privilege of attending the "Decolonize The Pelvis" Masterclass at the Latino Pastoral Action Center in New York. The experience was a transformative 90-minute session that sought to reconnect us with our ancestral roots and reclaim the sacred power of our womb space. Through a combination of "Indaba: Discussion with the intention of communal change," journaling, embodiment practices, Sensual Stretching, and dance, we embarked on a journey of deep emotional and spiritual healing.

The concept of "Indaba" set the tone for the workshop, emphasizing the importance of communal dialogue and collective healing. This traditional African practice of discussion provided a space for us to share our stories, experiences, and intentions. It was an opportunity to engage in meaningful conversation, fostering a sense of unity and shared purpose among participants.

Journaling served as a powerful tool for introspection and self-expression. It allowed us to document our thoughts and feelings, helping to process and release the emotional blockages stored in our womb space. Writing became a conduit for understanding how the colonized society we live in has impacted our feminine energy and how we can begin to dismantle these influences.

The embodiment practices were an essential part of the workshop, encouraging us to reconnect with our bodies through movement. Sensual Stretching and dance were not just physical exercises but acts of liberation. Moving our pelvis, waist, booty, and hips in isolations, shaking, popping, wiggling, and figure 8’s helped release stagnant energy and trauma blockages, realigning our root and sacral chakras. These movements echoed the dances of our African ancestors, who danced to heal, celebrate, mourn, and transcend their critical thinking minds to connect with spirit.

This masterclass was a reminder that before colonization demonized our indigenous practices, our sacred womb spaces and pelvis were revered as keys to our power. The workshop facilitated a profound reconnection with this ancestral wisdom, allowing us to reflect, remember, and reclaim our birthright of feminine freedom and soul liberation.

One of the most enlightening aspects of the workshop was the realization that by freeing our womb space and pelvis, we could experience enhanced emotional balance, increased vitality, and a deeper connection to our inner selves. This alignment opened doors to greater creativity, intuition, and sensuality, empowering us to express ourselves authentically and confidently.

As we moved through the dance practices, it became clear that these movements were not just physical but deeply spiritual. They facilitated a release of feelings of shame and guilt that have been ingrained in us by a colonized mindset. By embracing these movements, we began to embody a sense of joy, passion, and holistic well-being.

The "Decolonize The Pelvis" Masterclass was more than just a workshop; it was a reclamation of our feminine power and a step towards total liberation and freedom in our womanhood. It reminded us that when a woman is connected to her femininity and creativity through an aligned sacral chakra and a connection to her body, she can tap into her full potential. This journey of decolonization is essential for us, the children of the Diaspora, as we strive to reclaim our heritage and empower ourselves.

Leaving the workshop, I felt a renewed sense of purpose and a deeper connection to my divine feminine power. The experience was a powerful reminder of the importance of honoring our bodies, our heritage, and our sacred spaces. I am immensely grateful for the opportunity to participate in this transformative process and look forward to continuing this journey of healing and reclamation.
